How does Scalapay work in store?

Updated today

🛍️ How does Scalapay work in physical stores?

To use Scalapay in-store, you first need to create an account.

If you haven't done it yet, you can sign up in just a few clicks here.

📲 How do I generate my barcode?

Once you're logged in:

  1. Go to the In-store section in the menu

  2. Add a payment method (your bank may ask for 3DS security)

  3. Choose the store you’re shopping in

  4. Enter the total amount of your purchase

  5. Confirm your payment plan

Your barcode will then appear on the screen.

Show it at checkout to complete your purchase.

💳 What happens after that?

  • When you create the barcode, only the first instalment is pre-authorized (this means the amount is held but not yet charged)

  • The barcode stays valid for 10 minutes

  • The first payment is only charged once the cashier scans the barcode

  • If you end up spending less, your plan is updated and the difference is released back to your card

❌ Can I cancel my barcode?

Yes! You can delete it anytime from your account.

As soon as you cancel it, the pre-authorized amount is released.

(How long it takes to see it back depends on your bank.)

⏱️ What if more than 10 minutes pass?

The barcode will expire automatically, and the pre-authorization will be cancelled.

Again, your bank decides how long it takes for the amount to become visible again.

🔁 Can I create more than one barcode?

Yes, you can delete and create new ones as often as you need.

Each time you confirm a plan, the first instalment is pre-authorized until you either use or cancel the code.

➕ What if I want to spend more than the barcode amount?

You won’t be able to spend more than the amount you entered.

If you need to, just cancel the barcode and make a new one with the higher total.

➖ What if I spend less?

No problem! The cashier enters the exact amount of your purchase.

Your plan will adjust, and any difference from the original amount will be released back to your card.

✅ Tip:

We suggest generating your barcode before going to the cashier, so you know your payment request is approved in advance.
